Update X10 to 2.2 or 2.3
Ok, so i'm my boredom last night, I paid xda-developers a visit to see what's new on the scene. As a pissed off owner of the Sonyericsson X10, I decided to 'stick it to the man' & use a custom ROM to update the X10 to Android 2.3, and boy is it a step up for the X10!!
I can finally use Flash based web-sites, get rid of Sony's bloatware and use the X10 to its true potential!
It really is like getting a new phone!!
For all you X10 owners out there who want to try the update, here is my step by step
EASY MOTHOD FOR INSTALLATION
Here is what you will need:
1 x Sonyericsson X10 phone
1 x USB cable
1 x Windows based PC
1 x Android 2.2 or Android 2.3 ROM - Download one of these & copy to the memory card on the phone
1 x Google Apps - Download this & copy to the memory card
Ok, here we go......
1 get sony ericsson update service, update your phone or press repair if update isn't shown - This will update you to Android 2.1 with baseband 2.1.54.
2 download the flash tool at the start and root your phone with it
2.1. ROOT ACCESS
To gain root acces it`s quite easy. Just have to do this:
3 install xRecovery with the flashtool from Advanced > Install xRecovery.
4 make sure your chosen rom is on your sd card easy to find and roms gapps if applicable -
5 Now unplug from the PC & turn the phone off. Wait 30 seconds & turn it on. As soon as the Sonyericsson logo appears (the 1st one), start pressing the back button. This will load xRecovery. In here, click 'Backup/Restore' & back up your phone
6 wipe everything you can with xrecovery AND DO NOT REBOOT!!! KEEP YOUR PHONE ON, TURNING IT OFF WILL MEAN YOU HAVE TO FLASH WITH SEUS AND START AGAIN YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!
7 In xrecovery choose install custom zip and find your chosen rom (the one from step 4) and install it. Then install the Gapps.
8 Reboot and enjoy ;-)

- On your phone check "debbuging mode" on Setting > Applications > Development
- Plug you USB cable
- Open your flashtool and click on Root box
- Wait a few seconds and your phone will reboot

Flashing the X10
X10Flash –2.1 allows you to install / Flash Android 2.1 Eclair on your Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 easily. Bin4ry, senior XDA member, is the author of this Eclair flash tool for Xperia 10 Series [except Xperia X10 Mini]. The tool has a pretty impressive feedback and most of the users have declared success in upgrading their phones with this tool. Please note that this software can only be utilized to flash / install Android 2.1 Eclair on Xperia X10 and doesn’t support flashing / installation of any older Android firmware like Android 1.6.
Here are the step by step instructions on upgrading your Xperia X10 to Android 2.1 Eclair with X10Flash -2.1:
It is important to note that you will need to completely WIPE user data before embarking on this method.
Failing to do so will put your phone in a loop boot. Apart from this, you also need to disable all User Access Permissions if you are using Windows 7 or Vista.

- Extract the X10Flash-2.1 and save the folder on your desktop.
- Now switch on your phone and connect to the computer.
- Once done, extract the Android 2.1 Eclair firmware file you downloaded earlier and copy the extracted files to Firmware sub-directory in X10Fllash-2.1 folder.
- Once you are done copying the files, execute X10Flash.bat file and wait for the procedure to finish.
- After the process is complete, you will get a notification prompt, hit enter to continue.
- Now unplug your X10 from the computer and wait for it to boot. It usually takes up to 3 minutes for the boot after flashing Android 2.1 Eclair with this tool. In case it doesn’t boot automatically, press the power button to boot it.
And there you go! You now have Android 2.1 Eclair on your Sony Erickson Xperia X10. This method has been reported working for Xperia X10, X10a and X10i. Please DO NOT use this tool to install Android 2.1 Eclair on your Xperia X10 Mini, navigate to this guide instead.
