It has come to my attention (Thanx to @Thisispocket) that many iPhone 4 users are reporting a bug where the iPhone Home Button does not always respond to single-click or double-clicks. It might be software related as most people seem to have begun noticing this problem after installing iOS 4.1+. It was hoped the bug would be fixed in iOS 4.2.1 but no such luck. 4.3 did not offer any improvement. Other causes that have been considered include a hardware short or dust or lint getting under the button. Ally also mentions that it may be caused by the home button not being properly centred. Here are some (potential) fixes

Issues (intermittent)
  • You single or double-click and nothing happens
  • You double-click and it only registers a single click

Fixes

  • 1.) Open any application

2.) Press and hold the power button until the slide to shutdown swipe bar appears.

    3.) Release Power button

4.) Press and hold Home button Lightly until screen returns to icon screen

    Or try this:

  • 1.) Connect the phone to you'r PC/MAC

2.) As soon as you plug it in, Press and hold the home button until the voice control appears.

    3.) Release Home button

4.) Press cancel, reboot the phone.
I have tested the 1st method on my iPhone @ MrsXeonWales's iPhone (both suffered the same issue) & now I have a fully working Home button again!!

Hope this helps someone!

  1. I tried the first suggestion and I think my home button seems to be working a bit better than before! Thank u.

  2. Hey – great blog, just looking around some blogs, seems a really nice platform you are using. I’m currently using WordPress for a few of my blogs but looking to change one of them over to a platform similar to yours as a trial run. Anything in particular you would recommend about it? click here
